Sometimes these actors are so selfish. Who do they think they are? Some of these these heavy hitters actually commit. Why not just recast? Why do they always have to kill someone off? With a recast you can get someone a little bit different, especially with a vehicle accident, and he even went through that time he went missing in the war, or the time they were making a charge for it and ended up injured, that could have led somewhere. Who cares what they even look like if they can portray the character, especially since he is no longer an "upper middle class lawyer" who is "self sufficient" and who thinks that "dressing someone does no seem like something a grown man should be doing." This didn't seem like a proper way to start a season, they should have just had him killed in the middle of the episode in which he died so that they could try to portray a lot of the things they've bogged onto this episode in that last half and then when the new season started, start in another time frame the way they just did for the episode...

Oh God I miss Matthew. For me, Mary and Matthew were the show. Dont get me wrong, I loved all the other stories but without this main one, I am so afraid to get bored...

Kind of weird that the nanny was so mean to Sybbie b/c her father is from the working class. When Matthew wasn't much better. Before Downton he had to earn his living as a lawyer. Definitely not equal to Mary's social status. This was emphasized in the first series but I guess Julian forgot that.

OMG thanx for the links i was having withdrawals like everybody else. I had to go back and watch seasons 1-3 at least every 2 weeks just to get my Downton fix. I am so glad to be able to watch season 4 on here. just watched episode 1 and cannot believe that Nanny West being so mean and nasty towards baby sibbie. shame on her

YAY!!! Thanks for the links!!! It seemed like FOREVER till this new season!!

@cancergirl yes I know that, I just meant the show's decision to change at that particular day for the meeting to show a change of mind for mary to get back into life, technically she should be in black for a year not six months

What a great way to start the new season. Looking forward to episode 2!

@IsobelHumphreys Mary's clothing change isn't so much to symbolize her moving out of her depression, as it was the accepted tradition of moving from mourning to half-mourning. By the 1920s, the etiquette of mourning had relaxed and the custom was not quite so widespread as it had been in the Victorian era, but a lady of Mary's station from an old fashioned house like Downton would likely still observe the custom.

A pretty good pickup episode I thought. Clever that Fellowes picked a spot in time when Matthews death is still fresh in mind, but far enough behind for it be time for moving on, while it is still difficult.

It speaks sensibly to where most fans probably are, concerning that event.
I don't recall the new ladys maid at all. But she's obviously quite the scheming little liar. Should be fun. ;) -
They crammed a lot of Upstairs Downstairs story lines into the first two seasons along with new storylines. Perhaps as a tribute or to help make Downton feel familiar or both. Season 3 felt like we were ramrodded through multiple storylines and years. I thought I hadn't finished the season because I honestly couldn't remember very well any of the story lines and their completions. Let's hope they get back to writing good stories.

PS: bestreams link is the best -
I agree with the fine detail, particularly like mary moving from black to purple at the end to show her change in getting out of her depression

hm, I didn't skip parts, but I agree the first two seasons were the best ones

Loved it and for what some would find boring, the bleak turn of the century aristocratic household upon untimely familial deaths... I can completely relate to lady Mary's coldness within 6months of death of a loved one.. and what a relief to see her cry .. with Carson especially .. absolutely best series ever, for every fine detail..

Can't believe I am saying this about Downton, but I got bored. I actually skipped parts of this episode. I've watched this show from the first day it aired and loved it but, not anymore. Maybe all the crazy story lines in the last series caused me to check out. It seems hollow and empty now. It's very obvious that several of the elements are missing that made the first 2 seasons so good.

I second nothere's comment: the BonanzaShare link worked fine. Thank you, Kiwibird!

Ours took longer than 10 minutes to fully download, but no problem--we were able to watch the episode in the meantime with no hitches. As with all the links, just don't accept any of those pesky pop-ups saying you need this or that download. (You don't.) -
Thank Shout_out_loud

I cannot wait to see more of grieving Mary, but I hope Fellowes doesn't make her fall back in love too quickly. -
Personally, I like Matthew more than the actor that plays his wife.

I don't know why it reported my last post as spam... probably because I wrote the vidup request and used it's web address of "dot" "me". Irregardless, it is a great great place to upload. The video loads quick, downloads are free and easy to access and really fast.

I'm ready for a 4th season. It sucks that what's his name is dead but it is a nice change up from what would have been very 'ordinary'. Anyway, an early thank you to the uploaders. You were all fantastic last year. Thanks again and happy hunting in two weeks.
