THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB, a whirlpool of vengeance

Action is on its way as a tattooed Claire Foy (The Crown) delivers vengeance as Lisbeth Salander in the first trailer for Sony’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

The trailer, which you can watch below, shows Lisbeth as she uses an intricate trap to capture a guilty husband, and then coldly telling him as he hangs upside down that he will turn over his assets to his abused wife. The new clip features plenty of chase scenes and shoot outs among snowy landscapes and warns “The past never forgets.”

“I’m a fan of yours — the CEO who beat up two prostitutes, but then got acquitted in court yesterday,” she says. “I’m transferring 20% of your cash to these two girls, the rest I’m transferring to your wife.”

She then tells the wife, who’s also been beaten up, “He won’t hurt you again.”

Lisbeth Salander was created in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by the late Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson. The book, the first of the Millennium trilogy, was published posthumously in 2005 and became an international bestseller. The studio decided two years ago to replace Rooney Mara with Foy. "The Girl In the Spider's Web" is a novel written by David Lagercrantz. Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don't Breathe) directed the adaptation after a script he wrote with Steven Knight and Jay Basu.

“People complain that a lot of trailers just spoil too much,” says Alvarez. “Every time a trailer comes out, they go, ‘Oh, they’ve spoiled the whole movie!’ So, we are really trying not to do that. I think, basically, it gives you a glimpse of the style of this movie, the tone we’re going for, and hopefully shows people how different it is from any previous incarnations.” (via Entertainment Weekly)

“My initial thought was, ‘Oh god,'” says the actress. “Then I met Fede and Elizabeth [Cantillon], the producer, and we had a really nice chat. I’d watched Fede’s films, and I was just really into him as a filmmaker, and [that] just made me really excited about it.” (via Entertainment Weekly)

The movie also stars Claes Bang, Sylvia Hoeks, Cameron Britton, Lakeith Stanfield, Stephen Merchant, Synnøve Macody Lund, Vicky Krieps and Andreja Pejić. Producers are Scott Rudin, Ole Søndberg, Søren Stærmose, Berna Levin, Amy Pascal, Elizabeth Cantillon and Eli Bush.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web, produced by Sony and MGM, opens November 9.
