SONG TO SONG, a cinematic and narrative treat

I don't know about you but I'm a fan of both Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender, and not because of their looks, but their acting skilss, in Gosling's case, singing too. And if we attach Natalie Portman and Rooney Mara to the duo, I think we're in for quite the romantic drama treat. Terrence Malick's Song to Song has received its first trailer, which you can watch below.

“I thought we could just roll and tumble, live from song to song, kiss to kiss,” Mara’s character, Faye, says.

The trailer — set to the music of Del Shannon’s 1961 hit “Runaway” — consists of quick shots of the Austin music scene and the romance between the two entangled couples. Gosling portrays struggling songwriter BV and Fassbender plays music mogul Cook as they chase success through a rock ‘n’ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.

“He’s after you,” Gosling’s BV warns Faye about Cook.

The trailer also features Gosling singing. The actor recently displayed his vocal talents and played a similar struggling musician, alongside Emma Stone, in the La La Land, and you can check out his band - Dead Man's Bones - for a different set of tunes.

According to Variety, Malick (The Tree of Life) began shooting Song to Song in 2012. Broad Green Pictures is releasing the movie under its partnership with Malick, which was announced in 2015. The film will debut as the opening night film at South by Southwest on March 10, followed by openings in Los Angeles and New York on March 17. The Tree of Life opened the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Since then, he’s directed To the Wonder, Knight of Cups (also starring Portman), and Voyage of Time.

Benicio del Toro, Haley Bennett, Clifton Collins Jr., Holly Hunter, and Angela Bettis appear in the film, but for how long, we’ll see. Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holdbrook, and other notable actors shot for a few days as well. Bale and Blanchett are confirmed to have made the final cut; we’ll see about Rhodes, Holbrook, and others. Expect appearances from Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Florence and the Machine, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lykke Li. (via Slashfilm)
