In the mood for gaming? The first screenshots and a trailer for Shadow of the Tomb Raider went live Friday following an event showing off the game around the world.

In the game's narrative, Lara has to master a deadly jungle, learn to overcome terrifying tombs, and persevere through her darkest hour. As she races to save the world from a Mayan apocalypse, Lara will be forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be, says the press release.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will challenge Lara Croft in new and unexpected ways,” said David Anfossi, head of studio at Eidos-Montréal. “Our team has created a diverse set of skills, combat techniques and equipment for players to master, and they’ll certainly need them if they hope to survive the deadly jungle environments and tombs.”

A preview of Shadow of the Tomb Raider has been shown at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Fans were able to join the creative team as they discuss the evolution of Lara Croft and share in the techniques, tools and inspiration behind the series. Panel attendees were able to witness an exclusive extended gameplay demo for the upcoming “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” game. (via Variety)

The new game is being helmed by Deus Ex studio Eidos Montreal, which took over the series from Crystal Dynamics. Shadow of the Tomb Raider hits the PlayStation 3, Windows and Xbox One on September 14.

Check out the trailer below.

About the previous game:

"Tomb Raider is a little self-indulgent at the beginning – the first hour is a sequence of carefully scripted set-pieces and, yes, a cavalcade of button-mashing QTEs. But it's all for the sake of character development, and Tomb Raider is so good at this that you'll forgive the strict direction – especially after the game opens out past the 60-minute mark and lets you loose on the island. Camilla Luddington's performance as Croft is impressively convincing, and throughout this adventure you'll really feel for Lara – she is just not having a good time out there. It is a compelling reading of the character; we see Lara's vulnerability, but she is never disempowered, and never less than totally capable in extreme danger." (IGN)
