20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for Red Sparrow, an upcoming action thriller starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence. You can watch the trailer below.

Lawrence plays Dominika Egorova, devoted daughter determined to protect her mother at all costs, prima ballerina whose ferocity has pushed her body and mind to the absolute limit, a master of seductive and manipulative combat. When she suffers a career-ending injury, Dominika and her mother are facing a bleak and uncertain future. That is why she finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons. After enduring the perverse and sadistic training process, she emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. Dominika must now reconcile the person she was with the power she now commands, with her own life and everyone she cares about at risk, including an American CIA agent who tries to convince her he is the only person she can trust. The clip, unveiled today, shows Dominika in a brunette wig and a low-cut red dress on a bed with a drink, followed by a man placing a mobile phone and money clip on the table and a disembodied male voice commanding her: “Take off your dress.”

The premise of the movie is then explained by a voice over: “When I was in Moscow, I heard about a program of young officers trained to seduce and manipulate. To use their bodies. To use everything. They call them sparrows. That’s what she is.”

Red Sparrow also stars Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker and Jeremy Irons. Francis Lawrence, who previously directed Jennifer Lawrence in the final three Hunger Games movies, directs Red Sparrow from a screenplay by Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) based on the book by Jason Matthews. Chernin Entertainment is producing with Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch is an executive producer.

Fox released the trailer a day before Paramount opens Lawrence’s enigmatic horror-thriller Mother! (directed by Darren Aronofsky) into theaters. Red Sparrow arrives in theaters on March 2, 2018.
