PEPPERMINT sees Jennifer Garner in action, watch the trailer

The first trailer for Peppermint has Jennifer Garner back action heroine shoes and you can watch the clip below. Pierre Morel turned Liam Neeson into an iconic movie tough guy in 2008 with Taken and now the French filmmaker might do the same with Garner.

The one-time Alias and Elektra star plays a grieving wife and mother on a quest for revenge after her family gets shot in a drive by. It’s been a while since Garner stepped into an action-oriented role, as the aforementioned Alias ended its five season run in 2006. From the trailer for Peppermint, written by Chad St. John, it looks as though Garner’s action instincts are still there.

Garner stars as Riley North, a wife and mother who’s life is turned upside down following the attack on her family. After waking from a coma, and finding the justice system has come up short in terms of punishing the perpetrators of the crime, she disappears and resurfaces five years later with killer skills. Costarring with Garner are John Ortiz, John Gallagher Jr. and Juan Pablo Raba. Producers are Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Eric Reid and Richard Wright.

During a CinemaCon presentation for the film, the actress said:

“The thing about Alias that made it so special was J.J.’s [Abrams] script, and how compelling the stakes were for that character all the time…To do action for the sake of action has never interested me but this script was so smart. There’s no bigger stake than your children and nobody had never asked me in a smart way to do something as a mom for her child.”

Garner also added: “This was to avenge your child’s death, and there’s no bigger reason to go out and get into really good shape and then kill people.” Well said, Jennifer Garner. Well said. (via Slashfilm)

“Corrupt judges, dirty cops. What do I want? I want justice.”

Peppermint opens in theaters September 7 via STX Films.

STXfilms noted that Peppermint is the latest in a series of its female-led releases including the two Bad Moms movies, The Edge of Seventeen, and Molly’s Game. It’s opening Amy Schumer’s comedy I Feel Pretty on April 20 and Shailene Woodley’s sailing drama Adrift on June 1.
