OCEAN's 8, all-female heist

It will come as no surprise that an all-female heist movie has made its way into the Hollywood realm. After all-female projects such as Bridesmaids, Girls Trip and Ghostbusters, it was a matter of time until an action flick such as Ocean's Eight would premiere. That said, Warner Bros. has just released a full trailer which you can watch below.

The first trailer introduces us to Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock), Danny Ocean’s formerly incarcerated sister, and her gang of thieves. Debbie gathers a team of highly-skilled women — including Mindy Kaling, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, and Awkwafina — for a jewelry heist. Kaling plays a jewelry expert, Rihanna a mysterious hacker type, Helena Bonham Carter works in fashion, Sarah Paulson is a reluctant mom, and Awkwafina plays a street-smart hustler. Their target? The annual Met Gala in New York City, or more specifically, Anne Hathaway’s $150,000,000 necklace.

The new footage shows Ocean getting out of jail and recruiting the seven other women to run the Met Gala job with her. The clip opens with Debbie at her parole hearing, saying that, if given another chance at civilian life, she just wants to get a job and make a few friends.

“Why do you need to do this?” Blanchett’s Lou asks Debbie.

“Because it’s what I’m good at,” she responds.

“It’s really fun,” Bullock told Entertainment Weekly. “Imagine all eight of us crammed into a makeup trailer in the morning. You think that it would be disastrous, but it was heaven, all of us just sharing information, all of us doing three jobs with families, our other jobs, the juggling. And then we get to shoot this movie together.” (via EW)

The trailer is underscored with a remix of Nancy Sinatra’s 1966 feminist anthem “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.” Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Pleasantville) is directing Ocean’s 8 from a script he co-wrote with Olivia Milch. Original Ocean’s trilogy director Steven Soderbergh is on board as a producer.

Ocean’s 8 arrives in theaters June 8, 2018, 11 years after the final installment of the original series.
