In the mood for some singing and dancing interlaced with chunks of juicy drama? Say no more, just watch the trailer at the end of this article. The musical sequel to Mamma Mia! (2008), Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is here.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again stars Meryl Streep, Lily James, Amanda Seyfriend, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skargård, Christine Baranski, and basically everyone else returning from last time, plus Cher. Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) has written and directed what is reportedly a sequel and prequel to the original.

Like the original, which adapted the stage hit for its own $609 million worldwide success at the box office, the new one will again use ABBA's music (both classic cuts and tracks that didn't find their way into the first film), and features the participation of the original stage musical's creator Judy Craymer. New ABBA songs featured in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again include “When I Kissed the Teacher,” “I Wonder (Departure),” and “Angeleyes."

The first film, adapted from the 1999 West End/2001 Broadway musical of the same name, focused on a young bride-to-be (Seyfried) in search of her father so he can walk her down the isle. She goes through her mother’s (Streep) diary and learns that her father could possibly be one of three men – Brosnan, Firth, or Skarsgård.

When it came to making the sequel, star Amanda Seyfried was refreshingly honest. “Truthfully, when they were like, ‘We’re making Mamma Mia 2,’ I was like, “That’s going to be terrible.'” she told Entertainment Weekly, before adding: “But it’s not! It’s amazing.” Seyfried went on to say: “I actually had a better time than I did shooting the first movie. Everybody’s back together and it’s been 10 years. There’s so much love and so much family that it’s infused 100 times in this movie. It was so unexpected for me.” (via Slashdfilm)

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is out in the appropriately summery slot of July 27, 2018. The movie is produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman, producers of the original film. Craymer is also the creator and producer of the worldwide smash-hit stage musical. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus return to provide music and lyrics and serve as executive producers. Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Phyllida Lloyd, Richard Curtis and Nicky Kentish Barnes also serve as executive producers.
