Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are taking a little break from television and doing another movie together. The Nest is going to hit cinemas on December 18, 2015. Does the date sound familiar?

It’s probably because right about that same time Star Wars: Episode VII is set to come up in cinemas. Indeed, the comedy will be getting some fierce competition, especially since it’s the first Star Wars since Disney acquired Lucasfilm. But well, I like to look at this as being two different situations, where they don’t necessarily influence one another because there are plenty of fans to go along. I’m sure they’ll both have large audiences.

The Nest is about two grown-up sisters whose parents decide to sell their childhood home. The two haven’t been really been keeping in touch the years, so the news will bring them back together under the childhood roof. In order to celebrate leaving a huge chunk of their past behind, the sisters decide to have one last big party. Of course, all their friends and ex classmates are invited.

Poehler and Fey haven’t starred together in a movie since Baby Mama in 2008, but they’ve been keeping the fans on their toes with all their event appearances and side projects. Their coming together will sync well with the need for a new comedy powerful couple, especially since they’re not that many female ones. It’s exciting to think about the two bouncing lines off each other. I hope the keep they won’t be too tied to the written dialogue and leave room for improvisation.

Both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler had a fruitful collaboration with Saturday Night Live in the past. Funny coincidence (or not), the script for their upcoming movie is inspired by an idea penned down by an SNL gal, Paul Pell, who wrote just wrote her debut screenplay. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is directing. In the production section, Fey will take the lead through her Little Stranger company, next to Jay Roach from Everyman Pictures. Amy will be right there with them in the executive producer chair.

The Nest will be distributed by Universal.
