I AM THE NIGHT, new TNT thriller starring Chris Pine

TNT has released the first trailer for the upcoming limited series I Am the Night.

The six-episode drama hails from writer Sam Sheridan and stars Chris Pine as a former Marine-turned hack reporter who seeks redemption in uncovering the truth behind a Hollywood scandal that has ties to the Black Dahlia murderer. India Eisley plays Fauna Hodel, a woman who was given away by her teenage birth mother in 1949, and whose quest to discover the secrets to her path leads her down a dark and dangerous road. After finding out she was adopted, Fauna began to uncover a complicated web that eventually connected with the 1947 “Black Dahlia” murder.

Patty Jenkins, the filmmaker behind Wonder Woman, directed the first two episodes of the series after helming that Warner Bros. blockbuster and before she got back in the director’s chair for the sequel WW 1984. Jenkins is comfortable with television, having helmed the pilot for AMC’s The Killing, and she appears to be back in thriller mode for I Am the Night - originally called One Day She’ll Darken. The Devil in a Blue Dress director Carl Franklin was also behind the camera for multiple episodes.

In addition to Pine and Eisley l, the I Am the Night cast includes Leland Orser, Jefferson Mays, Dylan Smith, Jay Paulson, Yul Vazquez, Justin Cornwell, and Golden Brooks. The six-episode series is written by Sheridan (Fighter’s Heart and The Disaster Diaries), based on the autobiography co-written by Hodel.

The series is produced by Turner’s Studio T, with Jenkins, Anonymous Content and Sugar23’s Michael Sugar (13 Reasons Why, Spotlight), Pine, Sheridan and Carl Franklin, (House of Cards, Homeland) serving as executive producers, with Franklin also directing two episodes.

TNT recently launched the limited series The Alienist to positive reviews, and I Am the Night appears to be similar, subject matter wise, so we're waiting to see if its going to be as well-received.

Check out the I Am the Night trailer below. The series premieres on TNT in January 2019.

The official synopsis reads:

I Am the Night tells the incredible story of Fauna Hodel (Eisley) who was given away at birth. As Fauna begins to investigate the secrets to her past, she follows a sinister trail that swirls ever closer to an infamous Hollywood gynecologist, Dr. George Hodel (Mays), a man involved in the darkest Hollywood debauchery. Pine plays Jay Singletary, a former Marine-turned-hack-reporter/paparazzo.
