Happy to see Salma Hayek back in the acting saddle, especially in a comedy. Pantelion Film and Lionsgate have released the first trailer for the upcoming comedy How to Be a Latin Lover.

Having made a career of seducing rich older women, Maximo (Eugenio Derbez - this is his first English-language movie) marries a wealthy woman more than twice his age, just like he imagined as a child. 25 years later, bored from waking up next to his now 80-year-old wife-he gets the surprise of his life when she ends up dumping him for a younger car salesman. Forced out of his mansion and desperate for a place to stay, he must move in with his estranged sister, Sara (Hayek), and her nerdy but adorable son, Hugo in their small apartment. Anxious to return to the lap of luxury, Maximo uses his nephew’s crush on a classmate to get to his new target-her grandmother, Celeste, a widowed billionaire. As Maximo tries to rekindle his powers as a Latin lover, he finds himself bonding with his nephew Hugo, and he begins to learn that being a Latin lover means that loving money isn’t as important as the love of your family.

How to Be a Latin Lover is a joint venture between 3Pas Studios, Pantelion Films, Lionsgate and Televisa Cinefrom. Derbez is producing with Ben Odell through their company 3Pas Studios. Mike Upton will serve as executive producer. It marks 3Pas Studio’s first film under its first-look deal with Pantelion Films.

Derbez and Hayek star in the film alongside Raphael Alejandro, Kristen Bell, Michael Cera, Linda Lavin, and Rob Lowe. The film is directed by Ken Marino from a script by Jon Zack and Chris Spain.

“I was doubled over laughing in the pitch; the Latin lover is such an iconic character,” Derbez said in an interview. “We are very excited to add this to our slate.”

“We love Zack and Spain; they bring the humor and the heart that is the embodiment of our brand. And it’s a perfect vehicle for Eugenio,” said Odell.

How to be a Latin Lover will debut in theaters on April 28, 2017.
