HBO presents: BIG LITTLE LIES
And the list of interesting and thought-provoking series continues with HBO's Big Little Lies. The new series is based on Liane Moriarty's bestselling novel about three mothers of first-graders whose perfect lives unravel in the most shocking ways. The network has just shared the full trailer for its new limited series Big Little Lies, along with a warning to all the inhabitants of suburban America: Be wary of the nice moms.
The teaser for the Reese Witherspoon (Wild, Walk the Line, Home Again) and Nicole Kidman (Eyes Wide Shut, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, The Hours) dark comedy sees both of the actresses’ characters welcoming a new mom to the community with the most open of arms. “This is Monterey. We pound people with nice,” Madeline (Witherspoon) tells Jane (Shailene Woodley). Adds Celeste (Kidman): “To death.”
“Ticking bomb: I’ll leave it at that,” another mom adds, coupled with a shot of Madeline flying off the handle. Cue a montage of a gala, screaming, a car crash, sirens, and a loaded revolver. “Things never blow over,” a voiceover adds in a new testimonial. “They blow up.”
"If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Hollywood, it’s that the more picture-perfect a suburban community looks, the more likely it is that it’s roiling with rivalries and resentments and petty cruelties just underneath the surface, and that it’s just a matter of time before someone gets killed. The town in Big Little Lies is clearly no exception. “We pound people with nice,” Madeline (Witherspoon) says in the trailer. “To death!” Celeste (Kidman) adds cheerfully. And sure enough, by the end of the video, someone’s asking, “we’re seriously using the word ‘murder’?”" (Slashfilm)
Big Little Lies‘ seven episodes are directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (Wild) and written by David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal) and also stars Alexander Skarsgard, Laura Dern, Adam Scott, and Zoe Kravitz.
The series premieres Feb. 19 on HBO.

HBO has been oozing with estrogen in recent years, from series like Girls, Insecure and Divorce, not to mention the female characters in Game of Thrones. I
