GOING IN STYLE's new trailer is fun and dangerous
I thought Going in Style is going to be a movie about three friends sitting around, complaining about how life passed them by, but this new Warner Bros trailer proves me wrong.
Going In Style, directed by Zach Braff (Garden State, Scrubs, Wish I Was Here), is a contemporary remake of the 1979 heist movie of the same name, which follows a trio of geriatric longtime friends (veteran actors Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Alan Arkin) who decide to rob a bank in order to pay off debt, as well as establish some balance in the universe.
The original movie takes a couple dark turns, and it's exciting to see how this movie tells the story. Plus, the original had three friends robbing banks just to give their life some spice in their old age. The remake has been constructed to give the characters a little more motivation by making the banks and the executives in charge of them responsible for the guys losing their pensions.
Caine plays Joe, a man who finds himself unfairly denied his pension. Arkin and Freeman are his curmudgeonly accomplices. Ann-Margret shows up, seemingly to do what she did in Grumpy Old Men, and Kenan Thompson is just adorably exasperated. Freeman, at one point, is coerced into saying, “You think?” And when Caine is asked whether he’s “five-o,” he responds: “We’re practically eight-o.”
"The two-and-a-half-minute promo is actually something of a minor miracle, since there’s not one nanosecond of it that feels remotely spontaneous. It’s fashioned entirely from recycled material, right down to the use of “Highway To Hell” by AC/DC on the soundtrack." (A.V. Club)
Official trailer reads:
Lifelong buddies Willie (Morgan Freeman), Joe (Michael Caine) and Al (Alan Arkin), decide to buck retirement and step off the straight-and-narrow for the first time in their lives when their pension fund becomes a corporate casualty. Desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, the three risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money.
