DUMBO, as imagined by Tim Burton

The first teaser trailer for Disney and director Tim Burton‘s Dumbo has arrived and it looks heart-warming.

The live-action adventure expands on the classic story where, as Disney puts it, “differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight.” It returns to the roots of the classic animated tale which opened October 23, 1941, won an Oscar for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture and was nominated for best original song for "Baby Mine". Now, the live-action reimagining of Dumbo uses a handful of visual effects to portray the title character and many of his animal friends. (via Collider)

Colin Farrell plays Holt Farrier, a former circus star, who adopts the flying elephant with his kids - Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) - and the support of Danny DeVito, who plays a dandy circus owner. Michael Keaton is also there as entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere, while Eva Green plays Zendaya from The Greatest Showman. Alan Arkin also stars as Wall Street tycoon J. Griffin Remington. All in all, not much is happening in this first clip except a short presentation of Dumbo and his human friends, but it’s a nice first tease for Burton’s vision.

"Disney continues its barrage of live-action adaptations of its animated classics with Dumbo. But while Dumbo has some of those familiar, striking images (the jail cell, the trembling eye, the floppy ears), the live-action Dumbo is a bit of a departure from the original film. And that’s good. Burton takes Dumbo to the turn of the 20th century, dousing the film with Gilded Age aesthetics and callbacks to the era of traveling circuses. It’s also a surprising departure for Burton, whose name has become synonymous with a Gothic flair and kabuki-mask faces. But in Dumbo, everyone is flesh-colored, warm and full of hope — especially the young girl Milly (Nico Parker) who takes the lost Dumbo under her wing." (Slashfilm)

Burton's Dumbo is produced by Justin Springer, Ehren Kruger, Katterli Frauenfelder, and Derek Frey. The script is penned by Ehren Kruger.

The movie opens March 29, 2019. Watch the first teaser below:

The official synopsis reads:

From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, the all-new grand live-action adventure “Dumbo” expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.
