Check out the trailer for I AM HEATH LEDGER
We've all heard of Heath Ledger at one point or another during his career and were, most likely, fascinated by him, whether it was for his role in Brokeback Mountain, The Dark Knight, Monster’s Ball, 10 Things I Hate About You or The Patriot. The industry thought similar thoughts when he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for Brokeback Mountain and won for Best Supporting Actor for The Dark Knight after his tragic 2008 death at age 28.
Now, you can look back at his life and personality though a new documentary called I Am Heath Ledger, from critically-acclaimed filmmaker Derik Murray. Network Entertainment and Spike TV will air the movie on Wednesday, May 17, after its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 23. The film will receive a limited theatrical nationwide release on May 3 with Fathom Events.
The official synopsis for the film reads:
I Am Heath Ledger provides an intimate look at Heath through the lens of his own camera, with a treasure trove of never-before-seen footage, as he films and often performs in his own personal journey – extravagant in gesture and in action. Through these personal home movies, we get a rare glimpse into his true character – demonstrating his creative energy and unshakable willingness to take risks that instilled such an extraordinarily deep love and affection in the people that entered his life.”
“He wanted fame, and then when he got it, he didn’t want it,” filmmaker Matt Amato, Ledger’s longtime friend and business partner, says in the trailer.
The film features interviews from those who knew Heath best, including close friends, family members, and industry peers, such as actors Naomi Watts, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, and Emile Hirsch, directors Ang Lee and Catherine Hardwicke, musicians Ben Harper, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), N’fa, and Grace Woodroofe, and the Ledger family.
“He kind of almost pulled out of every movie he ever ended up doing,” his agent Steve Alexander says in a clip from the documentary’s new trailer.
“There were always cameras around—a video camera, or a Polaroid camera, or a film camera,” actress Christina Cauchi says in the trailer. “That’s the only way I think of him, with the camera in the hand.”
