Another round of BLACK MIRROR

The teasing for Black Mirror's fourth season keeps on giving. After teasing singular episodes ranging from Jodie Foster‘s “Arkangel” to “Crocodile” and “Black Museum”, Netflix has now released our first look at “Metalhead,” the episode helmed by Hannibal director David Slade (also known for Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night). It’s still unclear when the latest batch of episodes from Charlie Brooker will arrive on the streaming platform.

Shot entirely in black-and-white from the look of the clip, “Metalhead” looks like a chase story. It stars Maxine Peake (The Theory Of Everything) as what seems like a rare survivor of some sort of dystopian act that leaves her wandering around for supplies while communicating by walkie-talkie. There’s a car chase at some point, and at least one shot confirms that Slade’s penchant for horror will be utilized. There’s also some talk about dogs. Where “Arkangel” seems pretty straightforward, “Metalhead” and “Black Museum” seem a bit more enigmatic, if also vaguely familiar. (via Collider)

The new episode also stars Jake Davies (The Missing), and Clint Dyer (Hope Springs). Other details on the episode are scarce, except for the video’s description: “Beware of Dogs.”

The trailer is narrated by Peake’s frenzied report detailing how she and her companion were attacked by a dog at the warehouse. There’s no indication that the episode is set in any near-future, except for one piece of dialogue from the woman’s report: “I’ve lost it for now. But my guess is it’s still operational.”

Brooker recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about why “Metalhead” is such a unique chapter.

“’Metalhead’ is very unlike any episode we’ve done before,” he said. “It’s a deliberately paired down and brutal tale. If you imagine every season like an album, this is like a 2-minute punk single. Each is pretty different from every episode we’ve done before and it’s difficult to explain why until you’ve seen them… Weirdly, the inspiration for this episode was I was trying to set myself a challenge of how paired back can I get. What’s a literally black-and-white story we can tell?”

The official synopsis of the series reads:

Black Mirror is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm – a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone – a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us.
