Another peek into MOLLY'S GAME, Aaron's Sorkin directorial debut

The new trailer for Aaron’s Sorkin’s directorial debut, Molly’s Game, is here. Written and directed by the Oscar-winning writer behind The Social Network, Steve Jobs, A Few Good Men and TV’s The West Wing, the movie will make its way in cinema on November 22, this year.

Jessica Chastain stars as Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who for a decade ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey (Idris Elba), who learned that there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led us to believe. Sorkin adapted the script from the 2014 book “Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker.”

"Bloom is a typical Sorkin protagonist: hyper-articulate, under the gun, and seemingly incapable of speaking without sounding like a condescending asshole, a celluloid sibling to Steve Jobs’ titular figure and Social Network’s Zuckerberg." (A.V. Club)

“I’m getting that you don’t think much of me, but what if every single one of your ill-informed, unsophisticated opinions about me were wrong?”, Bloom asks her lawyer at some point in the trailer.

"I like that the film explores female power and what that means in society," Chastain said in an Hollywood Reporter interview. "Molly's journey goes through that, and Aaron really showed the hurtles she had, but also how powerful a person she is."

"It isn't often you come across a story that is both cool and has a lot of heart, and this one does," Sorkin explained after the first trailer for his directorial debut screened.

Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves), Michael Cera (Superbad, Arrested Development), Jeremy Strong, Chris O’Dowd and Bill Camp co-star in the pic produced by Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal and Matt Jackson.

“The casting of Jessica and Idris in the two lead roles is any filmmaker’s dream come true,” Sorkin previously said about the feature. “They’re two of the greatest actors of their generation, paired for the first time, and their chemistry will be electric.” (via ComingSoon)

STX bought the project at the Cannes Film Festival last year for $9 million. Check out the trailer above.
