A QUIET PLACE, an unsettling trailer

“Listen closely, move carefully, and never make a sound. If they can’t hear you, they can’t hunt you” the teaser trailer enigmatically warns. This tagline is also the only synopsis available for the new horror A Quiet Place.

If you've ever had dreams where you can't hear yourself scream, no matter how hard you try, you'll most likely experience this new trailer as scary. Released by Paramount, A Quiet Place might end up going in whatever direction on the satisfaction scale, but it certainly taps into some of our deepest fears by the looks of the teaser. Of course I can't wait to find out what will happen once invisible evil hears them?

The upcoming horror film follows a family in the woods who have to live in silence unless they summon some kind of threat that is hyper-sensitive to sound. Everybody has learned to adapt to their unusual circumstances by learning sign language and living in silence aided by toys made of soft fabric, bare feet, and tons of candles. When a friendly game of Monopoly ends up going sideways aka making noise, the family must fight to survive the invisible threat. We get flashes of the scared family, with Blunt’s character in a bathtub at one point looking like she’s in child labor. The lack of an actual scary object, as far as we know, makes the whole set-up extra scary. John Krasinski also co-stars in the film alongside Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe (Suburbicon), and Millicent Simmonds (Wonderstruck).

A Quiet Place also marks Krasinski’s third feature directorial effort following Brief Interviews with Hideous Men and The Hollars. The horror movie is produced by Michael Bay and will be released in theaters by Paramount on April 6, 2018. Krasinski and his Sunday Night Productions partner Allyson Seeger will serve as executive producers alongside Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The studio has kept all plot details under wraps, making the first clip below the first time any story elements and footage are being revealed.

Although this is only a teaser trailer, it’s incredibly effective, and it’s clear Krasinski knows the power of sound in the horror genre.
